Korenkiewicz’s office is in a modern savings-and-loan building on the Southeast Side of Chicago. The S&L has a bright golden eagle as a spire. Across the street there’s a tavern. Korenkiewicz has told me to call him from the tavern. It’s Wednesday and the savings and loan is closed, so he’ll have to come down from his office to let me in the front door of the bank. No one pays attention to me in the tavern. All the customers are old men at play with their pool games and glasses of tap beer. The TV blares a baseball game. Korenkiewicz’s line is busy so I walk back across the street and rap on the glass door. People on the sidewalk stare at my suit and briefcase. The children on the walk are blond and fair with fragile high cheekbones, eyes blue and innocent. Some of them wear T-shirts printed HOLY MARTYRS SCHOOL. A woman in a white waitress uniform stands at a news kiosk. She buys a Polish-language newspaper. Down the street are rows of dark-red-brick two-flats. Everything is neat, orderly. Garbage cans at the curb for collection. Bundles of plastic at each driveway. An old man in a kerchief stands in the shadows of one of the houses and hoses down a her porch. Finally, a cleaning lady comes to the front door. The people in Korenkiewicz’s office are pleasant and polite. He is waiting for me, thin and balding, thick glasses, a quick intelligence.
I can see the lines of fatigue in Gubbins’s face. His eyes are shadowed by dark rims, and his face, behind the mask of vitality, is pale. He has been drained by this trial.
Without a doubt, the next few months will be the most momentous in determining if India remains on the path prescribed in the Constitution or would it move to chalking a different course, where majoritarianism is an acceptable premise. Over the course of the past year, people have reinforced the theory that Indian democracy has an inherent corrective mechanism. But it is premature to say if the trend will continue in the parliamentary elections, or whether people will accept the BJP’s argument that national interests and those of the community are more important than issues related to personal well-being and advancement.
Walsh envisions the test being used for an initial screening for AD, especially for people who live far afield from medical centers equipped with PET imaging equipment or physicians skilled in CSF extraction. A plasma test might also prove useful in clinical studies. Walsh and colleagues are in talks with the Alzheimer’s Disease Drug Foundation and, after further validation, plan to try the test in prevention trials such as A4.

Located on the Cuyamaca College campus in El Cajon, the Heritage of the Americas Museum is a cultural and educational jewel packed with a vast collection highlighting the history and prehistory of the Americas – from Maya painted bowls and wedding vases to jade burial suits, ancient Peruvian art, saber tooth tiger skulls, and an abundance of fossils and arrowheads.
@Adam When you wrote: “The much hyped sensor suite on the Apple Watch is capable of measuring oxygen saturation in the wearer’s blood. Adapting this sensor to measure carbon monoxide saturation is a matter of adding a couple of LEDs and software.” you seem to insinuate a technology not based on chemical cells, but one similar to oxygen saturation measurement of the bloodstream. I know how to use a search engine, but I was wondering if perhaps you found detailed or just interesting sites/papers/articles on how that works for measuring CO in the bloodstream? It seems like a more direct way (less false positives) if the bloodstream is the source.

The answer, at one level, is simple. India’s family laws allow for divorce but they also allow husbands to walk out of a marriage without completing the formalities of divorce. And that’s not right, surely.
