Jacaranda has 18 species and is found primarily in western South America, Central America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Sect. Dilobos, which is believed to be the primitive form, has 31 species and is found primarily in south eastern Brazil including the Paraná River valley. The anatomy of the wood in the two sections also differs. Although usually treated in sect. Jacaranda, J. Copaia differs somewhat from all other members of the genus, and may be intermediate between the two sections (Dos Santos & Miller 1997).

To demonstrate the biparental lineage of hybrid cells, we used three discrete approaches. First, MΦs labeled with 5-ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridine (EdU) before coculture with H2B-RFP–expressing neoplastic cells produced MФ–cancer cell fusion hybrids that initially harbored two nuclei, one labeled with EdU (MФ origin) and the other expressing H2B-RFP (neoplastic cell origin; Fig. 1D). Upon the first mitotic division, binucleated hybrids underwent nuclear fusion, yielding a single nucleus containing both EdU- and H2B-RFP–labeled DNA (Fig. 1D).

Managing and reading carbon monoxide sensor takes a fair bit of electronics. In the classic analog system, an op-amp circuit called a potentiostat monitors the reference electrode, and changes the voltage at the counter electrode to keep the cell in balance. The overall output of the cell is measured as current traveling into or out of the working electrode. This current is in nanoamps, so a transimpedance amplifier is used to convert current to voltage, as well as boost the signal to a level which can be easily measured by an analog to digital converter.

With its many benefits, ferrate might help streamline the drinking-water treatment, says Joseph Goodwill. He’s an environmental engineer who works at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston. Ferrate might also cut the need for disinfectants. Some of these, such as chlorine, can yield dangerous by-products, he notes.
