SOLIRIS ® is a first-in-class complement inhibitor that works by inhibiting the C5 protein in the terminal part of the complement cascade, a part of the immune system that, when activated in an uncontrolled manner, plays a role in severe rare and ultra-rare disorders like paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH), atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS), and anti-acetylcholine receptor (AchR) antibody-positive myasthenia gravis (MG). SOLIRIS is approved in the U.S., EU, Japan and other countries as a treatment for patients with PNH and aHUS, in the U.S. for the treatment of adult patients with generalized MG (gMG) who are anti-AchR antibody-positive, in the EU as the first and only treatment of refractory gMG in adults who are anti-AchR antibody-positive and in Japan for the treatment of patients with gMG who are AChR antibody-positive and whose symptoms are difficult to control with high-dose intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy or plasmapheresis (PLEX). SOLIRIS is not indicated for the treatment of patients with Shiga-toxin E. coli-related hemolytic uremic syndrome (STEC-HUS).

GO genes involved in “response to stimulus” expressed at high levels in MФs were also up-regulated in MФ–cancer cell fusion hybrids. In particular, fusion hybrids harbored elevated expression of the MФ-associated gene colony-stimulating factor 1 receptor (Csf1R), a significant recruitment, differentiation, and survival molecule for MФs (26) implicated in regulating prometastatic MФ effector functions (27). To determine whether acquisition of MФ-associated receptor gene expression translated to functional ligand-mediated migration, we analyzed hybrids and unfused cancer cells in Transwell chemotaxis assays coupled to live imaging (IncuCyte Chemotaxis, Essen BioScience). Under these conditions, fusion hybrids migrated toward the ligand CSF1or stromal cell-derived factor-1 (SDF1) at multiple concentrations (shown at 25 ng/ml), whereas unfused MC38 cancer cells were incapable of responding to either chemoattractant; in contrast, B16F10 cancer cell hybrids exhibited decreased migratory responses (Fig. 2, F and G, and fig. S1C). Notably, the presence of a ligand did not change proliferative dynamics of either fusion hybrids or unfused cancer cells (not shown); however, incubation with blocking antibodies to CSF1R or CXCR4 reduced chemotactic responses of fusion hybrids (Fig. 2G). Some hybrid clones expressed both CSF1R and its main ligand, CSF1.

The working electrode is where the action happens. Typically made of platinum, the working electrode sits just behind a watertight but gas permeable membrane. Air enters the cell and contacts the electrode. The platinum oxidizes any carbon monoxide, causing an imbalance in the cell. The counter electrode is a place where electrons are added or removed to “counter” the reactions occurring at the working electrode. If present, the reference electrode is isolated from the carbon monoxide, and provides a reference to the potential of the electrolyte. It is often omitted from modern detector designs. Nowadays, the counter electrode does double duty – acting as a measurement point and balance input to the cell. Every cell is different, which is why most manufacturers test each cell, even printing the mA per PPM value right on the cell case.

However, the WLC (which organization has been greatly involved in both practical assistance and presentation of ideas and views to the Panel) has gone so far as to suggest that this Panel should not even give consideration to the Mail & Guardian article of 18th May and reject the application of clause 12.1.1 of the Terms of Reference to this Panel. The second is located in the RO reuse storage tank. The goal of creating the RO reuse system was to use all the water the company could collect, and it was at this point that another backup was required. When all the reuse water collected was in use, there would be no water returning to the RO reuse storage tank. With no water in the tank, the distribution pumps could run dry and fault out. To alleviate a production shutdown due to loss of water, a float was installed to measure the depth of water in the storage tank. When the float measures low water, a solenoid valve opens to add virgin RO water to the reuse storage tank.
